You try so hard to show your boss how dedicated you are in working. Your boss is at the office before you arrive every morning and you try to compete with your boss. It's common to see the workaholic boss who shows up early in the morning and she/he is still there when you leave every night. You don't have to be exactly like your boss to show how dedicated you are. Your boss keeps bugging your weekends sending emails, so let him be. You don't have to be like him in working.

Don't get inspired to be like your boss. It's unhealthy to do so and you don't want to harm yourself by overwork. Do you have to match his/her marathon pace to get ahead? The answer is NO! You can impress workaholic boss by achieving just as much as he or she does without letting work hijack your personal life. There's way to prove that you are dedicated without turning into a workaholic employee.

Make your impact obvious

Show your boss what you have accomplished by sending summary at the end of the day or week. Focus on what you what you accomplished and how it impact your work. Don't mention on how long you've spent on doing it by working late at night, skipped your lunch and all. You want to be someone whom do great in job but don't want to be a workaholic. So communication is vital for both parties.

Level-up your productivity

Now you have shifted the focus on how much you get done and not how long you spend doing it, okay let's start working on increasing your efficiency. Think of what becomes your boundaries in achieving your target every day. Manage the distraction such as email and interruptions from your bubbly colleagues. Try to eliminate those distractions and at the end of the day, you will see the changes even if it's a small change. Learn time-management skills and give priority to your task.

Know your limits

It's important to know your boundaries. Don't push yourself too hard and be a "Yes Man". The boundaries will allow you to achieve your professional goals and at the same time your personal goals. Tell your boss that you need time to enjoy with your family because it's an essential part of your productivity plan and this critically helps you avoid burnout. Sometimes, however you can say no when you have to stay late at the office to finish the task or last-minute deadlines. Be flexible enough to put in extra hours temporarily. But remember to return to your normal schedule when the task has ended.
