It’s hard to decide when it’s time to change jobs, especially when you’re comfortable at your current job. Sometimes people have a thousand reasons to stay, even if things are bad.

Starting at a new company is a big risk, and there will always be good reasons to stay. But it hurts you more to work at a place you’re unhappy with. So how do you know when it’s the right time to quit?

If you’re still deciding, these are 5 points that will help you determine if you need to change jobs.

5 Signs You Need to Find a New Job

1. You're stuck in the same position

Employees want opportunities to climb the corporate ladder. It is unavoidable to be stuck in the same job doing the same thing when you’ve become so important in your position that no one sees you doing anything else.

Job development is important for your own growth.

So if you’ve been doing the same thing for the last four years, and you want to move forward in your career, but there’s nowhere to go at your current place, it might be time to look elsewhere.

2. You don’t receive enough feedback

Feedback is an important part of your professional development and learning process. But if you don’t receive enough feedback at your current, or perhaps none at all, there’s something wrong. It’s probably not a part of the company’s culture, or your supervisor hates to conduct performance appraisals. Either way, it’s time to go.

3. You’re not learning any new skills

You want work that engages and interests you. But at your current work, you have nothing. There’s no challenge in any of the tasks that you do. Not only are you not learning anything new, you’re also not even utilizing the skills you do have.

Job can be stressful and boring when nothing is challenging anymore.

Since you have become inactive, you will either start looking for courses and seminars so you can learn new skills or you’ll become bored and complacent.

If this sounds familiar, your employer is probably not serious about investing in your development.

4. They have stopped hiring new employees.

The company is expanding, but they are expecting you to take on more roles which means more work. Your coworkers are leaving, but there are no replacements.

You should probably update your own resume once you start noticing a pattern of unhappy colleagues, multiple private conversations, or frequent departures without the employees being replaced.

5. You’ve lost your connection to your job

Other than the above reasons, once you’re mentally checked out, it’s time to go. You know your work environment better than anyone else, and you know yourself too. There’s no point working there when you no longer have the passion and connection to it. Remember, your job satisfaction matters.

Check these points carefully and see if these situations sound familiar to you. If so, then it’s time for you to leave. As long as you put the time and dedication into your next job search, you’ll find your dream job.
